Botox centre in Girne flat ‘operating illegally’

-

FIVE people have been arrested and appeared in court over charges that they provided Botox injections and lip fillers “without permission” from a flat in Girne.

Three suspects who had administered Botox and performed lip filler procedures at the “Ago Beauty Centre” were arrested after being “caught red-handed”, while the owner of the establishment was also arrested.

They were brought before Girne District Court on Sunday to hear the charges against them before being remanded in custody for an initial period of three days.

The three female suspects and one male suspect were back in court on Wednesday, when they were joined by a fifth suspect, the manager of Ago Beauty

Centre, who had “given permission” for the cosmetic procedures.

During the hearings a police officer testified to the court that 48,210TL, 1,800 euros, £450 and $500 in cash, as well as Botox and filling materials, needle tips, and injectors that were brought to the TRNC without being declared to customs were found in the suspects’ possession.

The police officer explained that at 6.30pm on August 27, it was determined that the suspects had “violated the Medical Association Law” by administering Botox and lip fillers “without authorised permission” at Ago Beauty Centre on Şht Orhan Durusoy Sokak in Girne.

The police officer said that the materials and money found were seized as evidence and that after the suspects were arrested, they voluntarily gave statements noting that they had performed procedures on “about 50 people”.

The police determined that the three suspects who were administering the injections had only arrived in the TRNC the day before they were arrested, on August 26, and that investigations were ongoing in this regard.

The five suspects were remanded in custody on Wednesday for periods ranging from two to five days to allow police more time to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile Girne Municipality announced in a written statement that it had sealed off the Ago Beauty Centre premises (pictured above) on Monday because the business did not have an operating licence and there was no record of one having been applied for.
