Finance Ministry issues warning about scammers

THE Finance Ministry has warned members of the public to disregard emails purporting to be from the TRNC Revenue and Tax Office.

A statement from the Finance Ministry said: “As a result of an investigation, it has been determined that a hacker group based abroad is sending emails regarding a payment order to some TRNC taxpayers from fake addresses.

“Emails like this are not being sent from the TRNC Revenue and Tax Office. It is important . . . not click on the link in these emails.

“If someone is tricked by this message and makes a transaction, then scammers with nefarious intentions will obtain people’s personal information and can cause financial and emotional grievances.

“Therefore, the public should disregard such fraud attempts in order to prevent scams, fraud and grievances.”
