Remains of three people believed to be Turkish Cypriots found after 59 yrs
THE remains of three people believed to be Turkish Cypriots who went missing in 1963 have been unearthed during an excavation conducted in South Cyprus by the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP).
The bones were discovered at a depth of 11 metres during the excavation of a well in the village of Trulli/Troulli, according to information from the Turkish Cypriot Member’s Office of the CMP.
The victims are believed to be Turkish Cypriots who left İskele by car in 1963 and were never seen or heard from again.
If the identification of the remains confirms that they are Turkish Cypriots, it will be the first time in seven years that missing Turkish Cypriots have been found in the South of the island. Following formal identification, the
remains will be handed over to the families for a dignified burial.
