Early diagnosis emphasised for ‘Public Health Week’

-

THE Health Ministry kicked off “Public Health Week” with a “Stay Healthy” march in Lefkoşa last Saturday.

Health Minister İzlem Gürçağ Altuğra, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre and other minsters, officials and members of the public took part in the march, which started in front of Dereboyu Avenue and ended at Kuğulu Park.

Signs reading “Be Careful What You Eat and Drink, Consume Safe Food”, “Every Step Taken is the Path to Health” and “The Pressure of Our Soul Makes Our Body Sick” were carried.

Stands were set up in Kuğulu Park for the end of the march, where pamphlets providing information about leading healthy lifes were distributed to people.

There was also a handpainting activity for children.

Mrs Altuğra said in a speech before the march that “early diagnosis saves lives” and that a person “may not even be aware that they are sick before the symptoms of a disease appear in their body”.

She noted that “possible loss of life can be prevented” with regular doctor check-ups and health examinations to enable the early diagnosis of diseases. The minister also advised people to “include exercise in your life”.

In a statement issued before the march, Mr Töre called on the public to “take precautions before health deteriorates”. He also thanked healthcare professionals and stressed the importance of keeping fit.
