TRNC national team shirt goes on display at Great North Run

A BRITISH Turkish Cypriot runner has become possibly the first athlete to wear the new North Cyprus national football team kit while taking part in competitive sports by wearing the new jersey at the Great North Run in North East England on Sunday.

Okan Baysan completed the half marathon course in a respectable time of two hours, three minutes, and 27 seconds. Some 60,000 people joined a minute’s silence for Queen Elizabeth II at the start of the event. After the race Mr Baysan paid tribute to the Queen and said that by wearing the jersey, he “strengthened our ties with other nations through athletics and sport”.
