First ‘Girne Gastro Show’ takes place
THE first ever “Girne Gastro Show” took place in the Girne Bandabulya last Saturday, aiming to promote gastro-tourism to the town and the TRNC, and sustain authentic Cypriot cuisine.
The show featured various exhibitions regarding the preparation, production, and consumption of local cuisine, as well as stalls selling various traditional Cypriot food items and beverages.
Girne Mayor Nidai Güngördü spoke at the event, emphasising the importance of spreading awareness of local cuisine.
“Tourism in North Cyprus should not be just about hotels and casinos,” he said. “The country also has a very rich gastronomic culture.”
Mr Güngördü said food culture has a “unifying nature” and that “everyone has a duty to preserve original authentic Cypriot cuisine and pass it on to future generations”. Mustafa Şah, a board member of the Girne Gastro Show, said he believes it will “turn into a festival”
in the coming years.
