Terracotta Symposium held
PRESIDENT Ersin Tatar and Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre attended the opening event of the 4th International Vounous and Terracotta Symposium organised by Çatalköy Municipality.
According to a written statement issued by the Presidency, Mr Tatar said that a team of artists and Çatalköy Municipality employees led by Rauf Ersenal have “rediscovered a 5,000-year-old history” and that
Cyprus is one of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterranean basin with its history and cultural richness.
Congratulating those who contributed to organising the event, which “benefits the country’s tourism”, Mr Tatar expressed his hoped that “these beautiful works will eventually be turned into an open-air museum”.
During the event, Mr Tatar visited the workshops in Vounous village and was informed about the terracotta artefacts and met with artists.
Mr Töre, in his speech, congratulated everyone who helped organise the symposium and emphasised that it is a “great success to reintroduce such a settlement with a 5,000-year history to humanity”.
