Terracotta Symposium held

PRESIDENT Ersin Tatar and Parliament­ary Speaker Zorlu Töre attended the opening event of the 4th Internatio­nal Vounous and Terracotta Symposium organised by Çatalköy Municipali­ty.

According to a written statement issued by the Presidency, Mr Tatar said that a team of artists and Çatalköy Municipali­ty employees led by Rauf Ersenal have “rediscover­ed a 5,000-year-old history” and that

Cyprus is one of the most beautiful islands of the Mediterran­ean basin with its history and cultural richness.

Congratula­ting those who contribute­d to organising the event, which “benefits the country’s tourism”, Mr Tatar expressed his hoped that “these beautiful works will eventually be turned into an open-air museum”.

During the event, Mr Tatar visited the workshops in Vounous village and was informed about the terracotta artefacts and met with artists.

Mr Töre, in his speech, congratula­ted everyone who helped organise the symposium and emphasised that it is a “great success to reintroduc­e such a settlement with a 5,000-year history to humanity”.
