Yenicami take early Super League lead

Eagles the only team to end week two with 100% record

-

YENİCAMİ took an early lead in the Aksa Super League as they were the only team to maintain a 100 per cent start to the new season.

The Eagles made it two wins out of two last Sunday as they beat hosts Küçük Kaymaklı 2-1 in an ill-tempered Lefkoşa derby that saw referee Turgay Misk brandish seven yellow cards.

Yenicami took the lead in the first half with a goal by Fikret but Emre Nazik equalised for Küçük Kaymaklı before the break. Sylla headed in what proved to be the winner for the visitors in the 68th minute.

The victory gave Yenicami a maximum six points from their first two games.

Defending champions Mağusa

Türk Gücü and newly promoted Miracle Değirmenlik both had the chance to join Yenicami on six points in Monday night’s game but played out a goalless draw.

Doğan Türk Birliği are at the bottom of the table after losing 20 at home to Yonpaş Dumlupınar, their second 2-0 defeat in a row, last Friday evening.

The away side took the lead in the 60th minute when Hikmet connected with a cross from Rifat, before Weston sealed the victory for Yonpaş Dumlupınar with a goal in the 91st minute.

Gönyeli recorded their first win of the season, winning 2-0 at home to Türk Ocağı Limasol. Goals in each half by Osita were enough for Gönyeli, who now

have three points.

China Bazaar Gençlik Gücü also recorded their first victory, a 4-0 thrashing of Merit Alasancak Yeşilova last Saturday.

The match, played at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Stadium, featured a hat-trick from Mashumba and a goal from Turgut Kaan.

On Sunday Çetinkaya scored a later winner as they beat Hamitköy 3-2 in a closely fought tie. It looked like Hamtiköy would go away with a deserved point after twice coming from behind to level the tie at 2-2.

However Özgür popped up deep into stoppage time to score the winner for Çetinkaya.

In the weekend’s remaining games Göçmenköy were denied a chance to go top of the table after being held to a goalless draw by

Lefke, as were Mesarya, who drew 1-1 with Cihangir.

Last night, after Cyprus Today went to print, Yenicami were due to play Çetinkaya in the first of the week three games.
