EU to host anti-trafficking panel discussion in Lefkoşa
A PANEL discussion will take place in Lefkoşa on Tuesday to mark the European Union’s “AntiTrafficking Day 2022”.
The “Together Against Trafficking in Human Beings” event will be held at the Cyprus Turkish Teachers Trade Union (Ktös) building in the capital.
It will start at 4pm with 10 minutes of opening remarks by Mario Nava, the European Commission’s director-general for “structural reform support”.
That will be followed by a 50-minute panel discussion featuring Kiersten Strachan of the US embassy in South Nicosia, who will talk about his country’s “2021 Trafficking in Persons Report” on Cyprus; Katerina Stephanou, of Step Up Stop Slavery, who will talk about “eradicating modern slavery and human trafficking”; and Fezile Osum of the Human Rights Platform, who will provide information about the “local legal framework and the trends of human trafficking cases in the Turkish Cypriot community”.
There will then be a 30minute question and answer session starting at 5pm and moderated by Aysu Basri Akter.
The event will be in English and Turkish and simultaneous translation will be made available.
