TRNC news agency launches English-language service

THE Turkish News Agency Cyprus (Tak) has launched a news service in English. The new service, only available to subscribers, was launched on Monday.

Director Dr Fehmi Gürdallı said that Tak has many “foreign followers” on Twitter, which it is using “effectively”, and that it aims to act as a “reference news source” by producing news in English.

Underlining that one of the missions of Tak is to make the “voice of Turkish Cypriots heard throughout the whole world”, Dr Gürdallı stressed that Tak will be able to “fulfil that mission better” with an English news service.

Dr Gürdallı added that Tak’s next aim is to start a news service in Greek.

The state-run news agency, established in 1973, mainly supplies media outlets with news in Turkish and photos from the TRNC as well as reviews of the Greek Cypriot press.
