Turkey appoints new ambassador to Lefkoşa
METİN Feyzioğlu (pictured) has been appointed as the new Turkish ambassador to Lefkoşa.
Mr Feyzioğlu, the former head of the Turkish Bar Association, was notified of his new position by Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.
The current Turkish ambassador to Lefkoşa is Ali Murat Başçeri.
Mr Feyzioğlu was born in İstanbul on July 7, 1969, and graduated from TED Ankara College in 1986.
He graduated from Ankara University’s law faculty in 1990 and registered to the Ankara Bar Association in 1991.
After completing his master’s degree in 1992, he received his doctorate in 1995. He was appointed as an assistant criminal law professor to his alma mater in 1996.
He earned his legal English certificate from Columbia University. He became an associate professor in 2002 and professor in 2005. He became the dean of the Ankara University faculty of law from 2007 to 2008.
Receiving 209 out of 447 delegates’ votes at the Turkish Bar Association’s 32nd General Assembly, Mr Feyzioğlu was elected as the eighth president of the Turkish Bar Association on May 26, 2013.
Mr Feyzioğlu became a member of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Party Assembly on July 18, 2012 before resigning from the body in 2019.
His appointment as Turkey’s next ambassador to Lefkoşa was announced by a Presidential decree on October 6, 2022. He is married and has two daughters.
