Classic car season completed on time
THE fifth and final event of the 2022 Classic Car Rally Championship took place last weekend. The two-day regularity rally started on Saturday with five stages from Lefkoşa to İskele via the villages of Aslanköy, Paşaköy, Vadili, İnönü and Dörtyol featuring two “constant speed” or regularity tests before breaking for lunch at the City Mall in Gazimağusa.
After lunch the competitors continued with three more regularity tests through Tuzla, Salamis, Ötüken, Kuzucuk and Sınırüstü before reaching the offices of rally sponsors Noyanlar in İskele.
On Sunday the competition continued with two more regularity tests in İskele before lunch and an awards ceremony.
The overall winners of the rally were couple Salih and Yonca Çeliker, driving a 1972 Mercedes SL350.
Second spot went to İlker and Nalan Canbulat in a 1955 Vanguard, while İsmet and Ayşe Tufan were third in a 1960 VW Beetle. Awards were also given to the winners of around a dozen other categories.
