Royal British Legion Kyrenia Branch announces Remembranc­e programme

THE Royal British Legion (RBL) Kyrenia Branch has announced its programme of events for this year’s period of Remembranc­e.

The official launch took place on Thursday, at The George Cafe in Girne, with a “Pop-Up” stall where “all things Poppy-related” were available for purchase. There will be two more Pop-Up stalls at The George on November 3 and 10.

Tomorrow, October 23, a “Fun Scavenger Hunt” will be held, starting at 11am at Tolga’s Sular Restaurant and Bar in Karşıyaka. Tickets cost 100TL per car and can be purchased at the RBL stall at today’s Lambousa Market in Lapta between 9.30am and 11.30am or by emailing appealrblk­yrenia@gmail.com. There will be a trophy and a prize for the winning car, donated by the sponsor Azant Insurance. The venue will also be donating 15 per cent of the food takings to the RBL Poppy Appeal.

On Thursday, October 27, there will be a Pop-Up stall at the Wild Duck Cafe, Lapta, from 10am to noon.

On Monday, October 31, there will be a Halloween “Alternativ­e Quiz” at the Grease Monkey pub in Çatalköy, starting at 7.30pm. Tables can be reserved by contacting the Grease Monkey or emailing appealrblk­yrenia@gmail.com or visiting the RBL stall at the Lambousa market. Fancy dress is optional. The full menu will be available with 20 per cent of the food takings donated to the Poppy Appeal.

On Saturday, November 5, the “highlight of the RBL year”, the Poppy Ball, will take place at Kaya Palazzo Hotel. Tickets cost £55 for RBL members and £60 for non-members. A discount of £5 per ticket is available for those paying for a table for 10.

The event will feature “dancing to a live band” with dinner and drinks included in the price. Transport may also be available, depending on demand. Tickets can be reserved by visiting the RBL stall at the Lambousa market or by emailing Kyrenia.publicity@rbl.community.

An “Alternativ­e Quiz” will be the next event, taking place on November 9 at the Olive Press, Lapta. Again, tables can be reserved by emailing appealrblk­yrenia@gmail.com or visiting the RBL stall at the Lambousa market. There will be a limited menu available with 10 per cent of the food takings donated to the Poppy Appeal.

The Remembranc­e Service, which completes Remembranc­etide, will take place at The British Cemetery in Girne on November 13 at 12.30pm, followed by a traditiona­l Sunday lunch at The Ship Inn, Karoğlanoğ­lu.

All are welcome to the service but reservatio­ns for the lunch must be made and paid for by visiting the Lambousa RBL stall before November 8 or emailing Kyrenia.Secretary@rbl.community.
