President discusses Cyprus issue latest with academics

PRESIDENT Ersin Tatar had a meeting this week with a group of academics at the Presidency.

A statement from his office said that “current developmen­ts” and the period following the “historic call” by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the TRNC to be recognised, which he made during his speech at the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York last month, were evaluated during the meeting.

The “contributi­ons that academics can make in this process” were also discussed.

The meeting, which was held under the coordinati­on of Presidenti­al Special Adviser on Internatio­nal Relations and Diplomacy Prof Dr Hüseyin Işıksal, was attended by: 15 Kasım University Rector Prof Dr Remziye Terkan, Bahçeşehir University Vice Rector Prof Dr Bülent Evre, Near East University Vice Rector Associate Professor Dr Murat Tüzünkan, Near East University Head of Internatio­nal Department Associate Professor Dr Sait Akşit, Ankara Social Sciences University­TRNC Campus Lecturer Associate Professor Dr Emete Gözügüzell­i, Near East University­Head of Near East Institute Associate Professor Dr Mustafa Çıraklı, Girne American University Faculty Member Assist Assoc Dr. Muharrem Özdemir, Final University Faculty Member Assist Assoc Dr Birikim Özgür, and Lefke European University Faculty Member Dr Kaan Kutlay.
