‘Great Hunt’ dates and rules revealed

THE Great Hunt will begin on Sunday, November 6. According to a regulation published in the Official Gazette, the Great Hunt will take place for 13 days on the following dates: November 6, 13, 20 and 27; December 4, 11, 18, 21, 24 and 28; and January 1, 4 and 8.

During the hunting season, hunters will be allowed to hunt hare, partridge, francolin, pheasant, wood and wild pigeon, woodcock, quail, thrush, crow and magpie.

The dates, maps and rules for hunting were published after they were approved by the Council of Ministers.

In addition to areas that have been marked as permanentl­y out of bounds to hunters and out of bounds for 2022, hunting is also forbidden within 500 metres of military zones, dams, lakes and reservoirs; within 300 metres of picnic sites and the Eleousa Monastery, located in hunting zone 2 in the Karpaz peninsula; within 250 metres of residentia­l areas; and within 200 metres of the TRNC flag on the Five Finger mountains above the village of Taşkent and the weather station next to it; the Taşkent Nature Park; prison buildings; the Haspolat Wastewater Treatment Plant; all shooting ranges; the new Ercan airport terminal runway constructi­on site; universiti­es; official animal pen areas; and the Muratağa, Atlılar and Sandallar Martyrs’ Memorials and mass grave.
