St Andrew’s Church Music Week returns
THE annual Music Week of St Andrew’s Church in Girne returns tomorrow for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to information provided by Earl Moffitt, the church’s music director, the 5th Annual Music Week will be launched at the Sunday Eucharist in Girne, which takes place at the usual time of 10.30am, featuring guest organist and Music Week facilitator Dr Joe McKee. The Archbishop of Cyprus and the Gulf, Michael Lewis, will preside and preach.
Mr Moffitt described Dr Joe McKee as a “seasoned musician and educator”, adding that he has been a church organist since his teens who has been a familiar voice on BBC Radio Ulster for many years, having headed music at the Royal School, Armagh, and Methodist College, Belfast. In 2006 he was awarded an OBE for his services to music.
On Thursday, November 3, a “Thursday Night is Music Night” charity event will take place at St Andrew’s Church, starting at 7.30pm, which will “bring to a close this year’s programme of events”.
A “warm welcome is promised at this charity concert offering popular music for everyone”. Entry is free and donations are requested in support of two local charities – the Help Those with Cancer Association (Tulips) and the Lefkoşa Women’s Refuge.
“This is the sole charity event bringing Music Week 2022 to a conclusion and promises to be an evening of fun and entertainment to suit all,” Mr Moffitt said.
The 2019 St Andrew’s Church Music Week raised over 8,000TL for the two charities.
