Electric water heater warning
THE Cyprus Turkish Electrical Contractors Association (KTEMB) has issued a warning to consumers regarding electric water heaters ahead of increased usage as the weather cools.
A written statement from the KTEMB pointed out that water can carry electricity by acting as a conductor and that when it comes to electrical safety, the bathroom is “the most dangerous place” in the home.
“As wet skin reduces the body’s resistance, the effect of electric shock in a bathtub or shower cabin is much more severe,” the statement said.
“According to the plumbing installation regulations in effect in our country, as well as local bylaws, there are certain specific rules that must be followed for electrical installations performed in wet areas to avoid such incidents.
“It is required by law . . . that such electrical installations are carried out by KTEMB members, and we strongly recommend that consumers question the competency of those who will perform their electrical work.”
