Leaflets handed out to university students arriving at Ercan airport
STUDENTS arriving from overseas for the 2022-2023 academic year in the TRNC have been given leaflets about the country’s immigration rules.
National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu Minister and officials from the Higher Education and Foreign Affairs Department welcomed students arriving at Ercan airport on Sunday and handed out copies of the “What You Need to Know about Immigration Procedures” leaflets.
Mr Çavuşoğlu also inspected the immigration entry procedures for students who have earned the right to enrol in TRNC universities, and was briefed by police and immigration officers on the problems experienced when students arrive in the country.
Chatting with students once they had cleared immigration, Mr Çavuşoğlu presented them with the immigration leaflets and wished them a successful academic year.
Expressing his “gratitude” to the Immigration Police working at Ercan airport and the airport management “for the environment they have provided and their dedicated work”, Mr Çavuşoğlu said that as part of his ministry’s “Student-Friendly Island” project, they are “working to solve all the problems faced by students”.
He said that police and universities have been given access to the National Education Ministry’s Higher Education Registration System, known as “Yökas”, and that by “working in cooperation with our police regarding entry to the country, I think that we have prevented many problems that may arise with the measures we have taken”.
Mr Çavuşoğlu said the leaflets, which provide information about the immigration rules that higher education students must adhere to after they arrive in North Cyprus and where they can get help from if they encounter any problems, supplement information on the ministry’s website about the steps students must take before they arrive.
