THE Turkish government has allocated 74 million TL for a project to promote holidays to North Cyprus in “target countries”, it has been announced.
According to a statement issued by the Development and Economic Cooperation Office of the Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa, the project is being carried out as part of the “2022 Economic and Financial Cooperation Agreement” signed between the two countries.
The statement said a promotional film, for which 30 million TL was allocated to shoot and distribute it last year, attracted a “great deal of attention” from the target markets, namely the UK and Germany.
The statement said that with the addition of the Russian market this year, the “diversity of foreign tourists visiting the TRNC is expected to increase”.
The statement continued: “With the cooperation of the TRNC Deputy Prime Ministry and the Tourism, Culture, Youth and the Environment Ministry, and the Republic of Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Ministry, the project’s activities to promote [North Cyprus] have begun.
“Production has begun on the TRNC promotional film, which aims to promote the country's natural beauties, history, culture and authentic Turkish Cypriot cuisine.
“Films to be produced in cooperation and coordination between Turkey and the TRNC will be used for promotions abroad, including in Germany, the UK and Russia.
“Thanks to this project, which is very important for TRNC tourism, a great increase in the number of tourists coming from Europe and Russia is predicted during the 2023 tourism period.”
