Fake police cars for accident blackspots
CUT-OUTS of police cars are to be placed at accident blackspots in the TRNC in a bid to help save lives.
The five “model police cars”, which have been gifted to the police by the Cyprus Foundations Administration (Evkaf), were unveiled to the press last Friday. It is hoped that speeding drivers will be fooled into believing the cutouts are real when seen from afar and reduce their speed accordingly.
Evkaf general manager Prof Dr İbrahim Benter and other Evkaf officials visited the police headquarters in Lefkoşa to present the model police cars to Chief of Police Ahmet Soyalan and police Traffic Department director İbrahim Ulusoy.
According to a statement issued by Evkaf, Soyalan said that one of his main goals is to reduce the number of accidents on the TRNC’s roads “to a minimum”.
“For this reason, the regions with the most accidents in recent years will be determined and the model cars will be located in these areas,” he said, before thanking Evkaf.
Prof Benter said that Evkaf increases its charitable work “day by day” and noted that they support many organisations that benefit society such as the police, and health and education institutions.
