30 tonnes of TRNC-produced pipe tobacco to be exported
THE first harvest of pipe tobacco produced in the Mesaoria plain of the TRNC took place on Monday. Around 30 tonnes of harvested tobacco were delivered to the Karpaz Tobacco Cooperative for export.
Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Dursun Oğuz, who was present during the pipe tobacco delivery, said that tobacco production in the country resumed after it was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our aim is to produce export products in different sectors and support domestic production while providing input value to our country from these productions,” he said.
Pointing out that Karpaz Tobacco Cooperative imports tobacco from abroad and exports it to the USA after processing, Mr Oğuz noted that the money spent on imported tobacco will now “remain in the country as domestic tobacco production will be started”.
