Covid booster jabs for over-60s

-

THE rollout of the latest round of Covid19 booster jabs has been extended from people aged 75 and over to those aged 60 and over.

The Health Ministry announced the update last Friday following the start of booster jabs for elderly people and healthcare workers ahead of the winter season.

According to a statement issued by the ministry, members of the public in the eligible age group who want to be vaccinated will be able to receive their jabs at state medical centres and hospitals.

People who want a booster dose must have been vaccinated with at least two doses of Biontech, “while those who have only had a single dose of Biontech will not be considered fully vaccinated and will have to complete their vaccinations”.

Those vaccinated with three doses of Biontech will also be able to receive a booster dose, while those who have received four doses of Biontech do not need a booster.

The statement noted that people should have a booster dose of vaccine “at least three months after the previous one” and that those who have never been vaccinated and who have had Covid-19 should have a Biontech vaccine three months after the illness.

According to figures for the week to November 8, there were 349 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the TRNC from 4,461 tests. The number of deaths since the start of the pandemic in North Cyprus is 260.
