Two in their 20s die in Bafra head-on smash

TWO people lost their lives and two were injured in a head-on collision in the Bafra hotels area last Friday night.

According to informatio­n provided by the police, the accident took place at around 7.30pm when Oğuzhan Karaaslan, 29, was driving from the direction of Noah’s Ark Hotel and “recklessly” crossed into the opposite lane while heading towards the Kaya Artemis Hotel roundabout.

31. Mr Karaaslan and his 27-yearold passenger Muhammet Oktay Örtlek died at the scene.

Mr Aygün and his passenger İbrahim Çelik, 21, were injured and taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital.

Numerous local police officers and Police Traffic Department officers investigat­ed the scene of the accident.

7. A further two people involved in accidents that happened in December last year died of their injuries in 2022.

According to an analysis of the figures by Cyprus Today’s sister newspaper Kıbrıs, the victims were mostly young, with 12 of the 22 people who lost their lives in their 20s. Another three were in their 30s, four in their 40s, and three in their 50s and 60s. Males accounted for 18 of the deaths, while four females lost their lives.
