TRNC leaders send condolence­s for İstanbul bomb blast victims

PRESIDENT Ersin Tatar and members of the government issued messages of condolence­s following a bomb blast on İstanbul’s İstiklal Caddesi that left six people dead, including a 9-year-old child, and 81 injured last Sunday.

“From myself and on behalf of my people, I wish a speedy recovery for the injured and may all those who lost their lives in this treacherou­s attack rest in peace,” Mr Tatar said.

“Our condolence­s to the families and loved ones, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and to Motherland Türkiye [Turkey].”

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said he “strongly condemned the terror attack” and offered his condolence­s to the families of the victims and a speedy recovery for those who were injured.

Similar messages were also issued by Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre, Deputy Prime Minister Fikri Ataoğlu, Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğ­lu, other ministers, main opposition Republican Turkish Party leader Tufan Erhürman and People’s Party leader Kudret Özersay.

The Turkish government has blamed the PKK/YPG terrorist organisati­on for the blast. Turkish police have made dozens of arrests in connection with the explosion, including the arrest of a woman suspected of planting the bomb.
