Rock ‘n’ Roll Legends

A generation escaping from the deprivation and horror of a world war produced Rock ‘n’ Roll (R&R). It changed our world forever. For about 70 years its foot-tapping beat has been with us, its first great stars still exciting us, at the very mention of their names. The King himself (Elvis) is still wonderfully with us, despite being long deceased, but for me it is the recently deceased Jerry Lee Lewis who still embodies the anarchic, yet harmless soul of R&R with “Great Balls of Fire” and “Whole Lotta Shakin”. Jive baby, jive! What about James Brown, with "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" or "I Feel Good"? Pure energy on two legs. The distinctive sound of Bo Diddley, especially on "I'm a Man", still gets me going, or what about R&R's finest guitarist, B. B. King, with "Let the Good Times Roll"? Pure talent incarnate. At the soft end of R&R come Fats Domino ("Blueberry Hill") and the great Ray Charles ("Mess Around"), both with a hit list as long as my arm.

All these Rockers are either aged or long gone, but their music will live on forever. Rock ‘n’ Roll legends every one. Hear their records and refuse to get up and dance? No chance! Rock on!
