Haskasap sprints to victory
ENVER Haskasap won the “3rd Republic Sprint Rally” last Saturday, held on the Hamitköy ring road near the northern part of Lefkoşa’s industrial zone.
The race was held as part of events to mark 39 years since the proclamation of the TRNC.
A total of 11 teams started the race, each with two attempts to record their best time on a 7.5km circuit following a practice run.
The best time of the day – five minutes and 11.402 seconds – was recorded by Haskasap and co-driver Halil Mulla in a Skoda Fabia R5.
Mulla then jumped into the driver’s seat of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX to record the second fastest time of the day with his codriver and father Erden Mulla, finishing five seconds behind Haskasap.
Çağkan Bozalanlar and co-driver Mehmet Demirağ were a further five seconds back to claim third spot in a Ford Fiesta S2000.
The event ended with an awards ceremony, where trophies were handed out to the overall top three and also the best teams in various other categories.
