Widow of murdered businessman in court
THE widow of murdered businessman Halil Falyalı, who was killed along with his driver Murat Demirtaş in an armed attack in Çatalköy on February 8, has appeared in court.
Özge Taşker Falyalı appeared before Girne District Court on Monday to provide a statement as a “complainant”, in addition to statements she had previously provided to the police.
In her statement put on record at Girne District Court following a session held behind closed doors, Mrs Falyalı said that she was pressing charges against defendants Mustafa Söylemez, Mehmet Faysal Söylemez, Cengiz Şener, Metin Süs, Abdürrahim Çelik and Ender Yıldız, who are being
tried by the 36th İstanbul Assize Court, and that she wanted to take part in a civil lawsuit.
In a statement issued in the courthouse garden following the private hearing, Mrs Falyalı underlined that she will be monitoring the ongoing trials in Turkey and the TRNC, emphasising her belief that “justice will definitely be served” and that her “trust and belief in justice” continues.
“There are cases in both the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and İstanbul regarding my husband’s treacherous assassination,” she said.
“I gave an additional statement for our ongoing case in İstanbul. We are pursuing our case. I have absolute confidence in the judiciary.
“I wish success to all our police, prosecutors and lawyers in their duties. I trust the judiciary for the future of my children and for my husband.”
The second hearing in İstanbul is currently due to take place on December 15. The trial in the TRNC is ongoing.
