Driver, 18, dies after accident
AN 18-year-old motorist died from serious injuries sustained in a car crash on Monday morning.
A police statement said that Kumyalı resident Hasan Öztürk was driving from Kumyalı towards İskele on the Karpazİskele main road when he “lost control” of his vehicle at the Mehmetçik-Pamuklu crossroads at around 7.40am. The car went off the left side of the road and rolled over.
Öztürk was taken to Gazimağusa State Hospital but could not be saved despite all the efforts of doctors.
On Tuesday police reported they had arrested a 59-year-old bus driver believed to have caused the accident by failing to stop at the junction.
