Pedestrian critical

A PEDESTRIAN was seriously injured when he was hit by a car on the Girne-Tatlısu main road on Sunday evening.

According to a statement released by the police, the accident occurred at around 7pm, between the 10th and 11th kilometres of the road, near a junction for a picnic area.

Police said Kemal İzveren, 38, was driving towards Tatlısu when “due to his carelessness” he hit Umut Altıntaş, 37, who was walking in the right lane towards Girne.

Altıntaş was taken to Lefkoşa Dr Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital and placed into intensive care following emergency treatment. Mr İzveren was arrested as part of a police investigation into the incident.
