Super League leaders Mağusa Türk Gücü thrash title rivals
MAĞUSA Türk Gücü (MTG) went five points clear at the top of the Aksa Super League after thrashing previously undefeated Cihangir 6-0 at home last Saturday.
The goals came from six different players at the Gazimağusa Dr Fazıl Küçük Stadium as MTG made it eight wins from nine matches so far this season.
The first half of the game was a close affair in which both sides had chances before MTG broke the deadlock in the 40th minute.
The floodgates opened in the second half, however, as MTG scored another five goals to put the result beyond doubt to move on to 25 points.
Cihangir, who finished last weekend third in the standings, dropped to sixth place.
Yenicami moved up to second spot on goal difference thanks to a 1-0 win over Hamitköy at the Lefkoşa Atatürk Stadium last Friday night.
The game’s only goal was a “cross-cum-shot” effort by Fırat Ersalan in the 66th minute.
Miracle Değirmenlik slipped to third as they were held at home to a 3-3 draw by Yonpaş Dumlupınar.
Five of the goals came during the first 32 minutes of the match, with the visitors going into the break 3-2 ahead thanks to a hat-trick by Osman Şanverdi. Miracle Değirmenlik’s equaliser came in the 81st minute.
Mesarya are up to fourth in the Super League on goal difference following a 4-1 victory away to Türk Ocağı Limasol.
A Halil Turan hat-trick gave Doğan Türk Birliği a 3-1 win away to Küçük Kaymaklı.
Lefke also won away, 1-0 against struggling Gönyeli, while it finished one apiece between Merit Alsancak Yeşilova and Göçmenköy.
Monday night’s game between China Bazaar Gençlik Gücü and Çetinkaya finished goalless.
