Forest, Everton through, West Ham suffer shock in FA Cup

NOTTİNGHAM Forest and Everton emerged victorious in the FA Cup thirdround replays this week, securing their places in the fourth round, while West Ham United suffered a shock exit. Forest survived a spirited comeback from League One side Blackpool, ultimately winning 3-2 after extra time.

Andrew Omobamidel­e and Danilo had given Forest a 2-0 lead, but Blackpool fought back with goals from Albie Morgan and Kyle Joseph.

Chris Wood sealed the win for Forest in the 110th minute, setting up a fourth-round clash with Bristol City.

Everton secured their spot in the next round with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. Andre Gomes, making only his fifth appearance of the season, scored a stunning free kick, ending Everton’s 1,848-day wait for a goal from a setpiece.

Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia, in place of the rested Jordan Pickford, made crucial saves to deny Palace an equaliser, and Jeff Schlupp’s late header was also thwarted. Everton will now host Luton Town in the fourth round.

Norwich City overcame a scare to beat Bristol Rovers 3-1 and set up an exciting trip to Anfield in the next round.

Luke McCormick gave Bristol Rovers an early lead, but Norwich turned the game around in the second half.

Gabriel Sara, Adam Idah, and Kenny McLean scored for Norwich, securing a seventh FA Cup meeting with eighttime winners Liverpool.

In a major upset on Tuesday, Bristol City’s Tommy Conway was the hero once again as they eliminated West Ham United with a 1-0 win.

Conway capitalise­d on a sloppy back pass from Konstantin­os Mavropanos to score in the third minute.

West Ham’s task became even more challengin­g after Said Benrahma received a straight red card, and the 10-man

Hammers could not prevent the Championsh­ip side from claiming a famous victory.

League Two side Newport County earned a home tie with Manchester United by defeating Eastleigh 3-1.

Aaron Wildig, James Clarke, and Will Evans scored for Newport, while Paul McCallum provided a brief lifeline for Eastleigh.

Birmingham City also secured a spot in the fourth round with a late comeback win over Hull City. Jay Stansfield and Koji Miyoshi scored for Birmingham after Jason Lokilo had given Hull the lead.

Luton Town came from a goal down to beat League One side Bolton Wanderers. Dion Charles put Bolton ahead, but Tahith Chong equalised for Luton.

Chiedozie Ogbene scored the winner for Luton in the 57th minute, and although Charles had a late equaliser disallowed for offside, Luton held on for the win.

In another dramatic encounter,

Wolverhamp­ton Wanderers needed extra time to overcome Brentford 3-2 at Molineux.

Nelson Semedo and Nathan Fraser scored for Wolves, cancelling out goals from Nathan Collins and Neal Maupay for Brentford.

Matheus Cunha’s extra-time penalty secured the win for Wolves, setting up a Black Country derby with West Bromwich Albion in the fourth round.
