‘New’ Cyprus Airways schedule in ‘a few weeks’
Cyprus Airways, the airline that bought the name and branding of the defunct national carrier, has just received its air operator’s certificate (AOC), announcing that it will release details of its flight schedules “in a few weeks”.
Posting the news on the airline’s Facebook page, Cyprus Airways, owned and operated by Russia’s S7 subsidiary Charlie Airlines, announced that it has obtained the Air Operator Certificate from the Cypriot Department of Civil Aviation.
“Cyprus Airways has some of the best aviation professionals with vast experience at well-known European airlines. The Air Operator Certificate is a huge step forward for us, as it acknowledges that all our processes meet the requirements of European aviation authorities,” Natalia Popova, Cyprus Airways Chief Commercial Officer said in a statement.
According to a press release, on March 4, the airline conducted its proving flight from Larnaca airport to Heraklion with an Airbus A319, as part of the procedure to obtain the certificate.
“Our next step,” Popova said, “is to get the licence for commercial flights, for which we have already submitted our application. At the same time, we are at the final stage of preparations for the commencement of our flights.”
Cyprus Airways is currently finalising its schedule. The airline will soon launch its website http://www.cyprusairways.com/, where passengers will be able to buy tickets and get all necessary information about the airline’s routes, schedule, fares, and additional services.
In July 2016, Charlie Airlines, a Cyprus registered company, won a tender competition for the right to use the trademark Cyprus Airways for a decade. Cyprus Airways’ first aircraft arrived in Cyprus on December 1, 2016, featuring the brand’s new livery. Cyprus Airways will be based at Larnaca airport.
