Tem­po­rary casino to open doors on June 28

A tem­po­rary casino will open in Zakaki, Li­mas­sol later this month, be­com­ing the first to op­er­ate in the Repub­lic.

The casino at the old Or­phanides su­per­mar­ket site will op­er­ate while the City of Dreams Mediter­ranean re­sort is be­ing built.

“For those who can’t wait the three short years whilst we build this amaz­ing re­sort, we’re open­ing a Tem­po­rary Casino, or Popup Casino we pre­fer to call it, a milestone in it­self,” said Melco chief Lawrence Ho on Fri­day.

It is the first casino to open in ac­cor­dance with the new Cyprus Leg­is­la­tion and Reg­u­la­tions.

The Zakaki casino on 271 Franklin Roo­sevelt Av­enue, is ex­pected to open on June 28.

It has a floor area of 4,600sq.m., gam­ing area 1,300sq., 593 em­ploy­ees (75% Cypriot), 33 ta­bles, 242 slot ma­chines and can ac­com­mo­date 1,000 guests.

The Zakaki casino will op­er­ate un­til 2021 when all per­son­nel will au­to­mat­i­cally be trans­ferred to the In­te­grated Casino Re­sort.

Four other satel­lite casi­nos will open in Ni­cosia, Paphos, Ayia Napa and Lar­naca.

The one in the cap­i­tal and in Paphos are sched­uled to open their doors in Oc­to­ber, while the Lar­naca casino is ear­marked for early 2019 and Ayia Napa for later next year.
