As Jakob Lange explains, humankind has always lived side by side with nature. But since the last industrial age and our vast urban migration, the green in our everyday lives has been diminishing. According to Jakob, modern architecture and urban planning will increasingly focus on green spaces. It is natural for humans to be surrounded by greenery, but plants have also a proven beneficial to our health. Here’s a list of indoor houseplants that can help improve health and air quality: THE ARECA PALM cleans the air of carbon dioxide and harmful toxins. It also humidifies indoor air, which is healthy for the lungs in a closed bedroom. ALOE VERA is a tropical succulent. This enables it to thrive in bedrooms, which are often warm, and thus help to purify their air. The ficus tree is among the best air purifiers, and it filters out harmful toxins released from textiles. MOTHER-IN-LAW’S TONGUE releases oxygen, cleans the air of harmful toxins and is beneficial for our lung health. Many people also believe that it helps alleviate headaches and lower high blood pressure. THE BOSTON FERN also cleans the air, and ferns used as houseplants have been shown to have a regulating effect on our nervous system and help relieve us of stress as we sleep.
