Poetry Against All Odds

Grandes poetas iberoamericanos nos enseñan que parte del alimento espiritual que proporciona la poesía reside, también, en los actos en apariencia menos elevados espiritualmente de comer y beber. A modo de ejemplo, y como una manera grácil de acercarnos a la poesía, hoy que tanta falta nos hacen el humor y la fe, les comparto estas piezas de Baltasar del Alcázar (Sevilla, 1530-Ronda,

1606), Luis de Góngora (Córdoba, 1561-1627) y Jorge Luis Borges (Buenos Aires, 1899-Ginebra, 1986), en las cuales sus autores nos invitan a la mesa para olvidar los fracasos amorosos, los avatares de la política y la vida cortesana o de la historia y sus fugaces entresijos. Comamos, bebamos y deleitemos nuestro espíritu con estas joyas de nuestro idioma.

POETRY AGAINST ALL ODDS

Great Ibero-American poets teach us that part of the spiritual nourishment provided by poetry resides, also, in the apparently less elevated spiritual acts of eating and drinking. As an example, and as a graceful way to approach Poetry, today that we so much need humor and faith, I share with you these pieces by Baltasar del Alcázar (Seville, 1530-Ronda, 1606), Luis de Góngora (Córdoba, 1561-1627) and Jorge Luis Borges (Buenos Aires, 1899-Geneva, 1986), in which the authors invite us to the table to forget the failures of love, the ups and downs of politics and courtly life or of history and its fleeting ins and outs. Let us eat, drink and delight our spirit with these jewels of our language.
