Central Cuba's Black Nectar
THE COFFEE GROWN IN THE MOUNTAINOUS MASSIF OF GUAMUHAYA IS HIGHLY VALUED AND COVETED IN THE WORLD MARKET
The "Eladio Machin" Coffee Processing Company, known commercially as "Café Cumay" produces, collects, markets and exports green coffee from the central region of Cuba in a bid to guarantee the welfare of the population and the economic development of the country. The coffee plantations of Cumay are perched on an altitude ranging from 400 meters to 850 meters above sea level, boasting favorable conditions in those heights to clinch a remarkably top-quality production.
Its flagship product is the Crystal Mountain, recognized internationally as the second best-paid coffee on the market as a result of its superb organoleptic values, considerably favored by the edaphloclimatic conditions of the mountainous massif of Guamuhaya where these beans are grown. This prestigious coffee stands out for its excellent acidity, full body and notes of caramelized sugar, citrus and apple, ranging from smooth to bright, coupled with fine and rich aftertaste. Its sale is exclusively reserved for the Japanese market.
Cumay also sells other internationally demanded products, such as the Extra Turquino Lavado, the Turquino Lavado, Altura Lavado, Serrano Superior Lavado, Serrano Lavado and Serrano Standard. Its list of customers is topped by Cuba Export, Comercial Cuba Café and CIMEX. The latter two are responsible for sales in retail networks.
The Cumay specialists work in full compliance with quality standards. The cultivation of the coffee beans hinges on the centuries-old knowledge and expertise of local peasants. In this process, the hand-picking of the precious coffee beans and the strict selection of the raw materials are by far the two major aspects to bear in mind.
