-

The Center for Environmental Research and Services in Holguin (CISAT is the Spanish acronym) boasts a list of places of unfathomable beauty designed for tour buffs. Pinares de Mayari, located west of the Nipe Sagua-Baracoa mountain massif, is a good case in point.

Adventure begins down the La Sabina Ecological Trail, home to seven natural ecosystems, marked by tremendous diversity, biological fragility and a total surface of 2,425 meters. What's more, Jardin del Pinar is just another place, featuring an orchid garden with over 50 species.

Famous for its beauty and history, the Poza de Rafael -perched right in the middle of a mountain bathed by the Piloto Riverdelivers crystal-clear waters and a laidback environment. For those who love trekking, nothing compares to the scenery of the Pinares de Mayari higher grounds or to the panoramic views the northern, northeastern, eastern and southeastern hillsides have to offer. The reward is a refreshing swim.

For its part, Cueva Fría (Cold Cave), is a limestone formation that belongs to the La Chivera-Piloto cavern system, one of the two most important geological elements within this area.
