I have been having problems on my 2001 Td5 Defender. Sometimes the brakes are perfect and sometimes I have to pump the pedal twice which then gives me perfect brakes. I have bled the brakes on various occasions with little or no effect. Please steer me in the right direction before I replace the master cylinder.
– Danie Koen Ed – I had the same problem with my Defender and before resorting to overhauling the master cylinder I spoke to Gateway Offroad centre. Nekkies advised that the first thing I should look at are the wheel bearings. A loose bearing causes the disc to wobble and forces the pads open. That is why you have to press the brake twice. As simple as that!
