DHL pays it forward in Africa through rugby
As part of the build- up to the Rugby World Cup 2015 in England, the ‘ DHL Africa as One’ tour will see the team pass a single rugby ball from hand to hand while introducing Africa to the game of rugby. The seven- strong team left Cape Town in October and will be on the road for the next 11 months, visiting 45 countries and engaging in various rugby and corporate activities. “Africa as One is also about making an impact in Africa. In addition to the rugby fairs in cities and rugby clinics in local communities, we will be distributing over half a million units of stationery to young children and giving free tests for thousands of people across Africa. This is done in partnership with Mercy Ships,” adds Sumesh Rahavendra, head of marketing for DHL Express sub- Saharan Africa. “Naturally, a tour through Africa with such epic magnitude will not be complete without the most advanced, versatile and extensive range of vehicle- based adventure travel accessories available on the planet,” says Kevin Heyneke, marketing manager at Front Runner. The adventure gear specialists equipped the team’s Discovery 4 vehicles with the necessary equipment to support them on their journey. “Racks and holders were specially installed on the vehicles, which will ensure that the team has space to pack items such as spare wheels, gas bottles, transit bags, flip- up tents, spades and camping equipment,” he said. “When space is limited, adventurers need to make use of innovative solutions such as custom storage systems, and strong, versatile roof racks that can carry the heavy load as well as all accessories. We believe that the additional packing space and equipment will make the challenging journey across Africa more comfortable and easier for the team to endure,” Heyneke concluded.
