From the DRIVER’S SEAT
The great news this month is that the venerable Defender will still be with us for some time to come, albeit manufactured under licence outside of Solihull. This vehicle is an icon that has played a big part in the lives of many families in and around Africa and there are tons of photo albums crammed with memories made possible by the Defender’s legendary off-road ability, as it allowed grandparents and great-grandparents to access those unspoiled fishing and camping spots around our continent. We’re looking for those family pics and your stories of memories made possible for a coffee table book we intend publishing at the end of this year to commemorate this great car. If you can unlock some of those stories to share with us you could find your beloved family history published for posterity in a high quality book that would be around to share with future generations. Not all submitted pictures and stories will be suitable or selected, but if your story is one of those chosen you will receive a complimentary copy of the book to keep – a classic piece of memorabilia to hand down to future generations in your family. Wouldn’t that be cool? Following on the success of our Cape to Dar es Salaam expedition last year, we have been inundated with requests by readers keen to join us on future expeditions. Without letting the cat out of the bag I am also very happy to announce that we are planning two tours for later in the year and there will be limited space for a few readers to join us. Please keep an eye out on our social media and web pages for details and announcements around these as soon as details have been buttoned down. If you’re a keen adventure cyclist looking for new trails and gear, make sure you read our big bicycle feature on page 16. Dates have been confirmed for our upcoming Sea of Sand Challenge – check the events pages to find out how you can enter and win amazing prizes.
Until then, please keep it safe out there and enjoy the read. I’m keen to hear your suggestions and comments; please drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org
