- By Mohamed Samir

Projects to develop and improve the efficiency of Egypt’s national natural gas network are currently underway as gas transmission is essential for various economic and domestic activities across Egypt, said Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla.

El-Molla explained that these developments are necessary to meet the increase in consumption and to accommodate the changes occurring in the gas industry in Egypt. He further said that the gas network will play a pivotal role in transforming Egypt into a regional hub for trading gas and petroleum products.

The minister’s statements came during the general assembly of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (Gasco), to adopt the financial results of 2017.

El-Molla stressed the importance of improving the network in Upper Egypt to meet the expected growth needs of the region.

On the other hand, Gasco’s chairperson and managing director, Hisham Radwan, noted that the company has received and distributed about 58bn cubic metres of gas to different sectors in the domestic market, 62% of which were directed to the electricity sector.

Furthermore, Radwan explained that all the necessary projects to operate Siemens power stations in the New Administrative Capital, Beni Suef, and Brulus have been finalised,in addition to completing all gas supply projects for other power stations listed in the five-year plan for the electricity sector for 20122017.

Radwan added that the length of the main gas lines of the national network doubled to reach 7,487 km, with a transport capacity of 225m cubic feet per day.
