We achieved 300% of wait­ing lists tar­gets, says Min­is­ter of Health

Egypt has achieved a real progress in cur­ing hep­ati­tis C

Min­istry of Health has con­ducted more than 54,598 surgery op­er­a­tions of the to­tal 77,826 cases on the wait­ing lists that have reg­is­tered as part of the pres­i­den­tial ini­tia­tive for fin­ish­ing the ur­gent wait­ing lists, ac­cord­ing to Min­is­ter of Health Hala Zayed.

Zayed said on Satur­day that the rate of con­duct­ing surg­eries has reached 300% of the tar­get in four months since the be­gin­ning of the ini­tia­tive which firstly tar­geted cur­ing 17000 pa­tients in six months.

She added that the gover­nor of the Cen­tral Bank of Egypt Tarek Amer sup­ports the ini­tia­tive since its first day, and helped in pro­vid­ing the needed med­i­cal in­stru­ments for surg­eries, as well as pro­vid­ing funds for the hos­pi­tals.

Health Min­istry spokesper­son Khaled Mo­ga­hed said that 164 hos­pi­tals in­clud­ing 99 gov­ern­men­tal hos­pi­tals are part of the ini­tia­tive.

The Min­istry has also con­ducted the na­tional sur­vey for com­bat­ing hep­ati­tis C in order to ben­e­fit­ing from the out­comes of the sur­vey in study­ing the state’s fu­ture plans to save the peo­ple’s health.

Egypt has achieved a real progress in cur­ing hep­ati­tis C ac­cord­ing to the World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion (WHO), af­ter cur­ing about two mil­lion pa­tients in the coun­try, by the low­est cost of medicine world­wide USD 78, that opened up the prospect of med­i­cal tourism in the coun­try.
