‘Major V’ helped in recovering my stolen car - complainant
A complainant whose car was allegedly stolen told the court that the controversial Prophet Major V played a pivotal role in recovering his stolen vehicle.
This statement was made during the ongoing trial of Sibusiso Khumalo who is accused of theft of a car belonging to Phinda Mabuza and a hoover that belonged to him.
On Monday, the complainant, Mabuza, took the witness stand and recounted the theft of his car. Mabuza explained that on August 25, he was at Solanis with his friends, enjoying drinks. He mentioned that it was there where he first encountered Khumalo.
He stated that later that evening he went he went to his home which is five minutes away from Solanis. When he arrived home Mabuza said he was intoxicated so he parked his car outside the gate leaving his car keys in the ignition and rushed to the toilet inside his house.
While in the toilet he heard his wife shouting asking who did he leave in the car as it was moving. He says he rushed to the car and noticed that it was a male adult who was driving the car. He stated that he rushed to the complex near Solanis where they were previously drinking alcohol.
Upon his arrival at the complex, he said he found one Zwakele and asked him if he had not seen his car as it seemed like someone had stolen it. He said it just passed by driven by the accused. Zwakele and he then began looking around trying to find the car, however, they failed to find the car on that day.
The following day he went to Mbabane police station to report his car missing.
The complainant subsequently posted the car as missing on social media and left his contact details. On the following Monday, around 10 am, he received a call from Prophet Major V, who claimed to have seen his car. The prophet instructed the complainant to send money so that he could retrieve his car.
He states that he was reluctant to send the money without seeing the car The prophet sent him a picture of the car and he found out that it was the exact car.
The complainant proceeded to Matsapha in the Prophet’s church where the prophet had said the car was at
His brother and he rushed to the church and found the car. The Prophet informed him that Khumalo was attempting to sell him the car. However, one of his sons observed that the car was being sought after on Facebook, and the money he requested from the complainant was a gesture of thanks to his son, who had made the helpful discovery.
The police were called to the scene and instructed the complainant to inspect the car and check if everything was still present.
The complainant did so and noticed that his hoover was missing in the car. The complainant was then told to go to Matsapha police station where he found the accused arrested, with the Hoover at the police station. The accused was also found in possession of two cell phones which belonged to two of mabuza’s friends whom they were with at Solanis
He added that the car costs him E45 000, During cross-examination the accused disputed how the complainant narrated the events, stating that, he did take the accused car without his permission, however, it did not happen as the complainant narrated it to the court.
The accused claimed that he and the complainant were acquainted. He asserted that the previous statement in court, where he denied knowing the complainant, was false. According to him, they had met before, and he explained that he had requested the complainant to drive his car due to his intoxication.
Khumalo informed the court that he and the complainant were well familiar. He provided examples, such as accompanying the complainant to the mechanic to repair the complainant’s car. Additionally, the accused mentioned driving his car to take the complainant’s wife to the polling station during the elections. He also expressed willingness to bring a witness who could testify that they were together at Checkers on the day, driving his car.
With the matter still unresolved Magistrate Lenhle Zulu ruled out that it will be heard again in court on November 16, 2023.
