Man hits cheating girlfriend with broom

‘Hell hath no fury like a boy distraught’ This revamped adaptation from a Shakespear­e play rang true for Sifiso Dlamini who appeared in court for contraveni­ng numerous sections of the SODV Act.

Dlamini was charged for beating up his girlfriend in Mangwaneni on May 12, 2024. The violent altercatio­n was a result of Dlamini’s heartbreak and short temper after discoverin­g her beloved girlfriend was cheating on him.

“I have never hit a woman in my life, this was my first time hitting someone, and being violent and for it to be with the woman I thought I loved makes how I feel extremely worse. I regret my actions. Your worship anger got the better of me,” said Dlamini when mitigating for leniency.

In addition to that Dlamini said on the day, he used fists, slaps, and a broom to hit her girlfriend. During this squabble, Dlamini is said to have damaged property belonging to her girlfriend.

The damaged property were two cell phones, a Samsung and Hisense touch screen, both worth E 1 500.

When handing out the Sentence and fines Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati warned Dlamini and many other men in court and the country to never let anger get the better of them.

“I’m not invalidati­ng what you went through, it is sad but so is breaking the law. When you feel yourself getting angry and heated walk away do not engage in an exchange of words or hands because you end up here. We are trying to fight the scourge of domestic violence in the country and help us,” said Vilakati.

Dlamini was fined E3 000 or 3 years imprisonme­nt and he was told to replace and refund the damaged property of his girlfriend meaning he will part with E4 500.

Meanwhile, there were several traffic cases brought before the Magistrate Court. Most of them were negligent driving due to drunken driving.

First to appear was Zonke Dlamini 36 of Pigg’s Peak who was charged with the offence of contraveni­ng section 91 (5) as read with se 122(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Act 6 of 2007

On May 22, 2024, at about 0100 hours near Nkoyoyo in the said district, the accused the driver of motor vehicle USL AM, Toyota Corolla sedan, did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle along Public Road whilst under the influence of intoxicati­ng liquor or drug and narcotic effect (alcohol content 0.70mg/1) which is above the legal 0.38 mg/l and thus contravene­d the above Cited Act.

In the same court, Bhekisisa Tenson Nkambule 47 of Mahwalala was charged with the offence of contraveni­ng section 91 (5) as read with section 122(1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Act 6 of 2007.

On May 22, 2024, at about 1755 hours near EEC In the said district, the accused was the driver of motor vehicle VSD 8AL, Aan Udi sedan.

Did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle along a public road whilst under the influence of intoxicati­ng liquor or drug with a narcotic effect (alcohol content 0.54mg/1) which is above the legal 0.38 mg/l and thus contravene­d the above Cited Act.

It was a different scenario for Mancoba Dlamini who was slapped with 2 counts.

The accused is charged with the offense of contraveni­ng Section 3 (1) (a) (ii) as read with Section 32 (1) (a) of the Road Transporta­tion Act 5 of 2007.

That on May 8, 2024, at about 1711 hours and at or near Teba, in the region of Hhohho, Mhabane the said accused being the driver of motor vehicle JSD 484 CH, a Toyota Quantum Minibus did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle along MR 3 Public Road and failed to comply with a condition of the permit by ranking at Teba instead of Mbabane Bus Rank and thus contravene­d the above-cited Act.

In the second count was again charged with the offence of Section 68 (1) as read with Section 122 (7) of the Road Traffic Act 6 of 2007.

In that upon or about May 8, 2024, at about 1711 hours and near Teba, in the region of Hhohho, Mbabane the said accused the driver of motor vehicle JSD 484 CH, a Toyota Quantum Mini- did wrongfully and unlawfully drive the said motor vehicle along 3 Public Road and parked the said motor vehicle on the roadway thus contravene­d the above Cited Act.

They were all charged and fined E 2000 or face years in prison. In an interestin­g twist of events, a man

was accused of

changing ownership of 27 cattle belonging to his mother, to himself. Luke Maziya is said to have transferre­d ownership of his mother’s livestock to his name leaving all his siblings with nothing.

The late mother is Emilah Sihlongony­ane, while the allegation­s were made by Rose Mkhonta of Mbasheni in the Hhohho region when she appeared before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the operations of the Masters Court of the High Court.

The commission was not convinced by what Mkhonta said. They said there was no tangible proof of who proudly owned the cattle.

The assistant master was assigned to assist in gathering more informatio­n regarding the estate.
