To a-‘Moos’ art lovers with pencil and guitar

- By Siphesihle Dlamini

In the world of art and music, Nkosinemusa Mkhwanazi, better known as ‘Moos,’ in music circles, is a true creative force.

With a blend of passion, love, and an unwavering pursuit of perfection, Moos has established himself as a musician, DJ, guitarist, and fine artist.

For Moos, art is not limited to a specific medium or form. He believes that as human beings, we all possess the ability to create, as we are made in the image of God. “We have the power to tap into a world beyond our senses, the realm of imagination, where we can envision what is possible and bring it to life,” he explains.

To Moos, art is a continuous process of actualizing our intentions. It encompasses how we walk, talk, sing, dance, build, design, and interact with the world around us. He believes that everyone has a natural gift or talent for a particular mode of expression, and for him, it is music and fine art.

From a young age, Moos was drawn to creating art and playing the guitar. He started drawing as soon as he could hold a pencil, and his passion for the guitar led him to persistently ask his parents for one. His dedication paid off when he returned home one day to find a small acoustic guitar waiting for him. He played until his fingers blistered, driven by an intuitive inspiration that guided his artistic journey.

As time progressed, Moos discovered influential figures who shaped his artistic expression. One such inspiration was Joe Pass, a legendary jazz and classical guitarist. Pass’s mastery of his craft pushed Moos to strive for greatness in his musical pursuits.

Moos’ interest in music grew stronger with the rise of the Amapiano movement in 2019. He found himself captivated by the work of artist Musa Keys, who not only shared the same name with him but also possessed qualities that resonated with him. Moos believes that achieving greatness requires unwavering consistency and a well-executed game plan.

Realism

In his fine art, Moos focuses on technical ability and attention to detail. His work often reflects elements of realism, but he also deviates from conventional approaches depending on the message he intends to convey. One of his recent pieces, titled ‘City Spirit,’ is a pencil drawing depicting a part of Mbabane city with added cubism patterns along the landscape. The geometric shapes symbolize his hopes for the country’s development and a better quality of life for all. The artwork captures the spirit of growth, with lights beaming into the sky while the streets remain calm, emphasizing the need for internal transformation before external progress can be achieved.

Moos’ artwork has gained recognition, and his piece ‘City Spirit’ will be featured in the Yebo Art Gallery Summer Exhibition in Ezulwini, priced at E12,800. This partnership marks his first collaboration with an exhibition, and he stated that looks forward to creating more work to showcase his artistic vision.

Moos shared some valuable advice for aspiring artists. He emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself and pursuing what brings joy and fulfilment. He encouraged artists to study themselves, their abilities, and the world around them to find ways to contribute their gifts to society. Moos believes that economic freedom can be achieved through a combination of passion, education, and perseverance.

He cautioned against the misconception that artistry is an escape from reality, highlighting the need to do things we may not enjoy initially as stepping stones to doing what we love. Moos also emphasized the importance of studying the industry and understanding how to navigate its systems to one’s advantage. He further advised artists to draft realistic plans for achieving economic freedom, acknowledging the crucial role of education in understanding how the industry works.

In conclusion, Moos’ artistic journey is a testament to the power of passion, selfdiscovery, and perseverance. His ability to seamlessly blend music and fine art showcases his unique perspective on the world. With his artwork gaining recognition and his music captivating audiences, Moos is undoubtedly an artist to watch out for in the years to come.
