National Women’s event to be held annually
THE inaugural National Women’s Sports Day will now be an annual event.
This was revealed by Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) Media Officer Dumisani Ntiwane during the first edition held at Eswatini Football Association Technical Centre on Saturday.
Minister of Sports Culture, and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima was part of the close to 1 000 participants.
“We are happy with the overwhelming response that we received during the first edition. We will now stage the event annually and we appreciate the support of associations and companies. The concept aims to allow women to showcase their talent within the various sporting disciplines,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) board member Pearl Dlamini applauded the Council for coming up with the great initiative.
“We are pleased with the introduction of the sports day which allows women to showcase their talent and we hope the concept will even continue next year,” she said. Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA) Secretary Nkhosinathi Dlamini said they were happy with the response from the event.
“We are excited with the response from this event where we were able to discover new talents which will refer to the Olymp Africa boxing club for full-time training since a majority of the participants came from Lobamba and surrounding areas,” he said.
The event was spiced by culture events where culture participants further took part in Boxing bouts and other sporting codes such as Netball, Teqball, table tennis and Women’s Football, among others.
