Appearing before Judge Cyril Maphanga yesterday morning, Mthembu was granted bail fixed at E50 000 by the High Court.

However since the Crown represented by Crown Counsel Mandla Dlamini did not oppose the bail application, Mthembu was ordered to pay E10 000 in cash and E40 000 in form of a surety.

Mthembu in his bail application had pleaded with the court to release him since he is a sickly person with high blood pressure adding that his life was at risk.

“My life is at risk and I do not have a spare one, my continued incarceration has serious repercussions as I am a sickly person suffering from high blood pressure,” he submitted.

He told the court that upon his release, he shall abide by all bail conditions the court may deem fit, and these include that he surrenders his passport or travel document to the investigating officers and should not apply for a new one pending finalisation of the case.
