A good festive season as murders drop from 10 to only 4
The good working relationship between members of the public and the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has yielded good results as prioritised criminal activities during the festive season of 2018 dropped drastically when compared to that of 2017.
One of the notable developments was the fight against murder crimes. Speaking about how the police have been able to achieve this major turnaround, Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati said as the police engaged in massive campaigns.
She said they had a lot of public awareness, warning members of the public about good behaviour during the festive season. Vilakati said Members of Parliament also assisted them while they hosted the campaigns.
She said they held road shows, crime and accident prevention campaigns. The police mouthpiece said they also ensured maximum police visibility which included many roadblocks in the country’s roads.
Vilakati said one thing that has worked in their favour is that they made a lot of breakthroughs for major crimes last year and they effected a lot of arrests which is something that sent a message
