Inkhosatana Gelane of KoNtshingila umphakatsi in the Shiselweni region has fired the area’s Chief’s runner (uMgijimi) identified as Nhlanhla Kunene.

Kunene, who is said to be a police officer based at Malkerns Police station, did not attend the event that was closely guarded on Wednesday, where he was relieved of his duties.

As usual, members of the Royal Eswatini Police Services (REPS) had reinforced in their numbers as more than 20 uniformed police officers were closely monitoring the proceedings with a hawk’s eye.

The meeting was also held in the presence of the Hlathikulu station commander.

An array of allegations have been levelled against Kunene, one of which is that of touting himself as the area’s Indvuna and further allocated people land without consulting the authorities of the main KaGwegwe umphakatsi.

The former umgijimi was fired in absentia after allegedly compromising his trust with the leadership.

According to sources, Kunene had been assigned additional duties after the current Indvuna Bheki Maphalala became very busy with other state duties. Maphalala also doubles up at the country’s Chief Justice (CJ).

On Wednesday, Inkhosatana Gelane announced that Kunene had since been removed from the position of Umgijimi. This happened in the presence of about 100 residents of the area. Inkosatana said Kunene had gone overboard in the exercise of his duties that were given to him in the area of Lawuba at the Mbangweni Royal kraal, another Royal kraal under KoNtshingila.

At the meeting, the acting chief, who is former Senate President, repeatedly used the word "kubuka' to define what Kunene was supposed to do, not what he had started to do in the area.

The police officer is also said to have also attracted the wrath of the leadership when he tempered with the security of the area’s chief designate by removing him at his place of abode, to what Kunene claimed to be a much safer place without the consent of the area’s authorities, thus exposing him to danger.

Kunene was further accused of failing to keep royal fields(emasimu endlunkhulu) ploughed and letting the byre to deteriorate as it is now filled with long and unnecessary weed (ummena).

He is said to have been replaced by Mgambheni Ngwenya.

Ngwenya was immediately assigned to work speedily together with the new MP Derrick Masuku, Indvuna Yenkhundla of kaMethula Inkhundla and David Shiba, who is Bucopho to plough the royal fields before the end of the rainy season. Ngwenya’s other immediate assignment was to facilitate the re-construction of Sibaya within the Royal Kraal at Lawuba community under KoNtshingila.

Other noticeable individuals present were former MP Mphaya Simelane and Sabelo Masuku, the Human Rights Commissioner.

Kunene also stands accused of having conspired with the Godloza faction that is consistently challenging the Gelane- led faction from the KaGwegwe Umphakatsi. According to sources, Inkhosatana, during the same meeting, is to have further reminded the residents that all powers to appoint the next coming chief were vested in her and nobody else.

It is said that Kunene was expected to be present at the meeting but never showed up.

Kunene is not the first to get a taste of the wrath of Inkhosatana, as former Indvuna Mageza Mazibuko was also relieved of his duties.

Mazibuko was holding the position after Gelane had also relieved long time Indvuna Mfeneziyamthoba Magagula.
