Eswa­tini for 2019 African Youth Cham­pi­onships

AThe King­dom of Eswa­tini will com­pete in the 2019 African Ju­nior cham­pi­onships slated for April at Abid­jan, Ivory Coast.

The coun­try is ex­pected to send two ju­nior ath­letes to the up­com­ing con­ti­nent’s youth show­piece at the West African State. Eswa­tini Ath­let­ics As­so­ci­a­tion Sec­re­tary Thoba Maz­ibuko con­firmed the de­vel­op­ments when con­tacted yes­ter­day. “We will take part in the African Youth Cham­pi­onships and we are pos­si­bly look­ing at send­ing the best two ath­letes to the com­pe­ti­tion. We will start the se­lec­tion pro­gramme next month dur­ing first track and field event to take place on Fe­bru­ary 2 at the Mavuso Sports Cen­tre,”

“We are invit­ing and en­cour­ag­ing all lo­cal ath­letes to at­tend lo­cal com­pe­ti­tions in or­der to stand a chance to rep­re­sent the coun­try in the up­com­ing in­ter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tions. We are still go­ing to re­lease our cal­en­dar for 2019,” he said. The coun­try is also ex­pected to com­pete in the World Se­nior cham­pi­onships and the World Re­lay cham­pi­onships, both tak­ing place later this year at Qatar and Ja­pan, re­spec­tively. The coun­try last year com­peted in the 2018 African se­nior cham­pi­onships, which were held at As­aba, Nige­ria.
