Eswatini for 2019 African Youth Championships
AThe Kingdom of Eswatini will compete in the 2019 African Junior championships slated for April at Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
The country is expected to send two junior athletes to the upcoming continent’s youth showpiece at the West African State. Eswatini Athletics Association Secretary Thoba Mazibuko confirmed the developments when contacted yesterday. “We will take part in the African Youth Championships and we are possibly looking at sending the best two athletes to the competition. We will start the selection programme next month during first track and field event to take place on February 2 at the Mavuso Sports Centre,”
“We are inviting and encouraging all local athletes to attend local competitions in order to stand a chance to represent the country in the upcoming international competitions. We are still going to release our calendar for 2019,” he said. The country is also expected to compete in the World Senior championships and the World Relay championships, both taking place later this year at Qatar and Japan, respectively. The country last year competed in the 2018 African senior championships, which were held at Asaba, Nigeria.
